| Galindo Rodriguez Inducted 2008 Galindo Rodriguez, Associate Professor of Music at Northwestern State University, has been on the faculty since the fall of 1988. Prior to moving to Louisiana he worked as freelance trumpet player in Chicago and was Principal Trumpet of the Boise Philharmonic Symphony. Rodriguez earned the Bachelor of Music and the Master of Music Education degrees from the University of North Texas. In addition he acquired the Certificate in Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. His teachers include Adolph Herseth, former Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony, Vincent Cichowicz, former 2nd Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony, John James Haynie, Professor Emeritus at the University of North Texas, and Dr. Leonard Candelaria, former Professor of Trumpet at the University of North Texas. Since his arrival on the scene at Northwestern Rodriguez has taught applied trumpet, brass methods, brass pedagogy, conducting, coached various chamber ensembles, and developed the jazz program which includes the Jazz Orchestra along with two jazz combos. His concert series has hosted baroque trumpet specialists Niklas Eklund and Crispian-Steele Perkins, internationally renowned European recording artists. As coordinator of the Annual Jazz Concert Series he has collaborated with Ellis Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, Mike Vax, Byron Stipling, Astral Project, Tony Dagradi, Bob Kase, Mike Williams from the Count Basie Orchestra, Mike Tomaro, Matt Niess, Graham Breedlove, Trent Austin, Allen Vizzutti, and Bill Watrous. Rodriguez continues to travel the state, as Past-President of the State Chapter of the International Association for Jazz Education and current Treasurer for LAJE as clinician and soloist. He has performed with the Temptations, the Four Tops, Bob Newhart, Jim Nabors, the Elvis Presley World Tour, Don Rickles, Nelson Riddle’s Orchestra, and Regis Philbin. Most recently he served as guest clinician for the Arkansas All-State Jazz Ensembles and the 2008 Four-States Bandmasters Association. Aside from all his teaching and performance responsibilities, Galindo established the Northwestern State University Jazz Festival, in its 6th year of success, which developed into the Louisiana State Jazz Festival and Competition. Galindo is married to Sue Erwin Rodriguez; they have a daughter, Margaret Josefina ( Josie ). |
